Veda Banerjee tells us about the apartment they’ve lived in for 1.5 years: I moved to Oakland 1.5 years ago after 18 years in San Francisco. It’s a modern building and my apartment has lovely, 11-foot ceilings. Loved the southwest-facing windows and light!
I wanted touches of my Indian background and I also love Paris apartments, so I think I’ve combined both effectively, with some lucky mid-century modern scores on Facebook Marketplace — especially my dining table chairs.
Describe your home’s style in 5 words or fewer: Colorful, warm, curated, and fun.
I love colors — or layering colors, I should say. So my background is neutral with the wall color and comfy couch. But the art is colorful and special to me.
What is your favorite room and why? My living room. It’s comfy and inviting.
What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? A lovely Parisian-style mirror for my living room. Because it’s a one-bedroom apartment, the mirrors make the space feel bigger.
Any advice for creating a home you love? One that’s been shared before: Take your time. Live in the space a bit to get a sense of light in the apartment. Don’t be afraid to make a few mistakes; it’s OK. And if you find the perfect item on Facebook Marketplace or the flea market, just get it! Also, don’t over-clutter small spaces. The eye needs a moment to settle, so giving your curated items some space means your decorations will be appreciated more.
